West Ham United have submitted a bid to sign Flamengo striker Gabriel Barbosa for 18 months, according to O Dia.
The Brazilian outlet are insisting on their website that the Irons will put together a financial package worth up to £5m for the deal.
It is reported that the offer was rejected the same day it was sent by David Moyes, who has already responded to these rumours.
Flamengo’s board seem to have made it clear that they won’t let Barbosa or ‘Gabigoal’ leave for anything this winter.
A member reportedly told O Dia: “It makes no sense to loan out Gabi and they matter 1000% with the striker.”
Fabrizio Romano vouched for the South American outlet after the article was published, adding to its validity.
Moyes has since spoken out, as mentioned, ruling out the possibility of either Barbosa or Adama Traore coming to the London stadium.
Could it have been after the loan proposal was rejected?
Bringing Gabigoal to the Premier League for that price on an 18-month deal has always been a cheeky offer if true, with no real upside for Flamengo.
The Brazilian team would lose their main source of goals for over a year, with no real benefit for this alleged financial package.
Moyes likes to keep his cards close to his chest, however, and we could see something progress further down the line if no more deals prove successful by the end of the window.
