Sweet and Savory Shanty offers baked goods

ALLEN COUNTY — Jennifer Albertson-Rope was cooking at home. Now she cooks at the Sweet and Savory Shanty at 3031 Harding Highway.

The building was acquired and remodeled during the pandemic. The business has been open for about a year and a half. But Friday morning was the time for the official inauguration.

“It’s something I’ve always done. I started at the Clyde Evans grocery store. While I was in college to be a teacher, I worked in a bakery. I grew up in a family of pastry artists. When I went to work at Clyde, I made the cakes there and fell in love with it. I decided to go to the Wilton School of Cake Decorating and Confectionery Arts in Chicago, Illinois to hone my skills. I’ve always done this as a side hustle. I recently retired from education and decided to make it a full time gig.

Albertson-Rope says they specialize in personalized cakes for weddings, birthdays or other occasions. Customers wanted a place to buy goods on the east side of Lima. Sensing a need and hearing the calls, Albertson-Rope decided to open a physical store. Individual cookies, cake slices and cupcakes can be purchased alongside brownies, cupcakes and turnovers. Also offered are “Sweet Packs” which contain 24 servings of assorted treats. Order your sweet and savory items at 567-825-1619.
