NEW YORK – The Private Label Manufacturers Association (PLMA) has announced the winners of its 2018 Salute to Excellence Awards.
Over 500 new private label products have been evaluated by panels of industry professionals and consumers. Fifty-three products received titles in the food and non-food categories.
Retailers and wholesalers from the United States, Canada and Latin America have been invited to submit their new store brand products for review. According to PLMA, products have been reviewed for innovation based on category trends, the markets in which the retailer operates and the offerings of competitors. Items were also judged on taste, texture, smell, packaging, presentation and value.
The winners were announced in the bakery and snack categories. From European pastries to naan, many have been influenced by popular global flavors and cuisines.
“What’s really amazing is how good retailers have become at spotting trends and developing new products,” said Brian Sharoff, president of PLMA. “Ten years ago, all you heard were complaints from national brands that private labels were nothing more than imitators. Now it’s the retailers and their brand suppliers who are pioneering and leading the way. “
The following products won awards in 2018 and will be on display at PLMA’s 2018 Private Label Show, which will be held November 11-13 at the Rosemont Convention Center near Chicago.
