‘Piecaken’ is coming to Foxwoods, courtesy of the celebrity pastry chef


If you’ve ever wanted to try the “Piecaken”, a dessert version of the turducken, it’s now available at Foxwoods. The resort’s casino recently launched Sprinkletown, a new bakery showcase featuring celebrity pastry chef Zac Young’s viral multi-layered dessert with assorted flavors of pie, cake and toppings.

Young, known for his top four finish on Bravo’s “Top Chef: Just Desserts,” is the face of Great Cedar Casino’s new confectionery. Sprinkletown will offer sundae cones, stuffed cookies, “Zacarons” and cakes available whole or by the slice, including a layered strawberry rainbow cake.

Sprinkletown features the original Piecaken, with layers of pecan pie, pumpkin pie, spice cake, apple pie filling, cinnamon buttercream and oatmeal crumble, plus a Christmas rendition, with layers of pecan pie, eggnog cheesecake and red velvet cake, topped with cherry pie filling and amaretto buttercream. Try it by the slice or take an entire dessert home.

Young is the executive director of baking for Craveable Hospitality Group, which includes David Burke Prime and Caputo Trattoria at the resort’s casino. (Piecaken and Strawberry Rainbow Cake are also found on restaurant dessert menus.) He frequently appears on Food Network programs such as “Chopped”, “Beat Bobby Flay”, “Worst Cooks in America “, “Bakers vs. Fakers” and “Best Bakers in America,” and he commented on the Cooking Channel’s “Unique Sweets.”

Foxwoods also recently welcomed Mystic Market, a gourmet kitchen and restaurant with locations in Mystic, Old Saybrook and Westport, which opened its fifth outpost there on November 18. It’s located in the Great Cedar Hotel’s Great Cedar lobby, offering fresh sandwiches, soups, salads, desserts, coffees and gourmet meals to go, all homemade with local ingredients. The Foxwoods location also has a retail component, with items like olive oils, vinegars, and spices.
