Cristal Paredes, owner of It’s Delicious, has operated his bakery only through online orders for years. But now she has moved into her brick and mortar shop in Ridgefield Park and has started offering baking classes.
Take one with your kid, family, friends, wedding party – Paredes has a lot of options.
Paredes holds a baking degree from the Culinary Institute of America. After graduation, she worked for gourmet restaurants in New York City, such as the now closed Isola Trattoria & Crudo Bar, and later Foremost Glatt Kosher Caterers, cooking for events at places such as the Plaza Hotel and the Ritz Carlton.
In other words, you are learning from a highly skilled pastry artist.
A Mommy and Me or Daddy and Me class usually involves decorating cupcakes. Children play with buttercream and fondant to make their own cupcakes. At the end of the class, they bring home their cupcakes and aprons. Parents take home a kitchen tool as a gift and, Paredes said, a new skill.
âEven when I teach children, parents always learn something,â she said. “Like how to fill piping bags or using piping bag tips to make the icing more enjoyable.”
Paredes brunch classes are more suitable for adults. Participants will learn how to make a savory scone (filled with your choice of meats and cheeses) and can munch on danishes and sip mimosas during the class.
âIt’s a great place to be with friends or even with people you don’t know fully,â she said. âYou can mingle while you cook. “

For teens, she usually offers trendy drip cake decorating classes – something a little more advanced to hone their skills.
Depending on the course, participants will learn the basics of pastry making, such as making buttercream, working with puff pastry, and mastering the use of spatulas and pastry bag tricks for decorating.
You can also book a private lesson, which includes two appetizers to eat and two dishes to cook. âWe recently hosted a Friendsgiving,â Paredes said. âIt was really fun. They had set up a nice little photo nook and matching aprons.
Paredes said she is always polishing her classes. She hopes to bring in guest chefs to help her teach and expand her classes to include lessons such as making a deli board.
For the holidays, she offers themed classes on books: classes for children where they can decorate with Christmas colors and festive fondant shapes; adult class with lessons on how to make winter staples like cranberry almond scones and raisin cinnamon bread.

Classes start at $ 55 for parent and child classes (which includes take-out gifts); $ 75 for the cake-making course for teens (they will bring their own cake home); and adult classes that peak at $ 150 per couple and include a wine bar and appetizers. Private sessions can be booked with a minimum of six people, starting at $ 75 per person.
