Former Jungsik Pastry Chef to Open Dessert Shop in Flatiron


Former Jungsik chef Eunji Lee to open pastry shop next year

Michelin-starred pastry chef Eunji Lee, formerly of the two-star Korean restaurant Jungsik, has signed with Hand Hospitality Group to open a pastry shop near the Flatiron Building. Details on the store, including its name and exact address, are still under wraps, but a spokesperson for the restaurant group told Eater that Lee will focus on “high-end” and “highly aesthetic” desserts. The pastry shop is expected to open in February of next year.

Lee left Jungsik in March, citing a desire to open his own business in New York City. During a five-year tenure at Restaurant Tribeca, the pastry chef rose to prominence for her playful desserts – including those shaped like bananas and calamansi fruit – backed by a classic French background. For the opening of the pastry shop, she is teaming up with Hand, the prolific hotel group behind Midtown restaurants Her Name is Han and the brand new Little Mad. It is not clear at this time whether the desserts served by Lee at Jungsik will make it to the new store.

– Kitty’s, a worth seeing restaurant in Hudson, NY, is hosting a one-day pop-up with snacks and vinegar flights this Saturday. The event is a collaboration between Brooklyn-based vinegar company Tart and Current Cassis from the Hudson Valley.

– The open-air restaurant at McCarren Park seems like a good start. At a community board meeting on Tuesday, Brooklyn Bazaar founders Aaron Broudo and Belvy Klein shared their intention to serve morning coffee before opening as the full-service restaurant afternoon.

– At Savinos Quality Pasta in Williamsburg, owner Cono Savino is betting on imported French groceries as the store recovers from the pandemic.
